String Art Heart – Crafts for Tweens

string art heart for children valentine's dayI love crafting but my kids are still small so most of the crafts we make are simple and open ended. I miss more detailed tricky crafts and I am excited to share a craft aimed at tweens for Valentine’s day. This looks hard but it’s not hard, it just requires patience and more developed fine motor skills than the average five year old has so I would reserve this for the seven and up crowd.

You will need a cork hot plate, some paneling nails, scissors and red thread. string art heart craft

Start by making a heart outline with the nails on the cork. heart string art for tweensI used my pinky finger as a spacer between the nails so it was fairly uniform. heart string art for kids

Tie on a piece of string starting at the bottom. string art for kiddos

Randomly wrap the string from one nail to the other careful to keep it tight but not too tight.

When you feel like the heart is done tie a loose knot in the thread and carefully loop it over a nail and tighten. Repeat that a second time and double tie the knot. If desired you can add a tiny dot of white glue on the end of the thread. heart string art for valentine's day

All done and rad!
