Organize a kid nook in your kitchen

{End of the Year Clean Sweep} *Get organized BEFORE the holidays

The kitchen is the busiest room in the entire house and never is that statement more true than during the holiday season. In the coming weeks, the kitchen will be the heart of all your celebrations and festivities–where all the prep work happens and sometimes even the entertaining itself.

One of the best things you can do to save yourself some major headaches and stress is to head into the season prepped and ready with a few freshly organized systems!

One of my favorite sanity-savers is the small corner of my kitchen that I dedicated to my young kids. We are lucky enough to have a kitchen island with seating and my girls love to sit there while I cook dinner or do dishes. But when the holiday baking starts, they are going to want to be right in there next to me doing all the helping they can.

I love to bake with my kids and I make a point to do it frequently. But sometimes you just need to get things done. Rather than shoo them out of the room altogether, I’ve devoted one corner to hosting simple small-space activities they can do while I’m in the kitchen:

Each item is stored neatly in a container or on a rack ready to grab and use and more importantly ready to be put back into place when they’re done.

This system has worked out so well for us because it allows me to assist with a tricky puzzle piece when needed or I can ooh and ahh over some artwork while still being productive at my own tasks. My girls feel like they are working right alongside me and it allows us to spend time together and chat while keeping their little hands occupied and away from my cutting board.
