Talk Like a Pirate Day is on September 19, and we thought it would be fun to share a pirate themed craft to celebrate! ARRRRR you ready?
We glued on paper for bandanas and clothes, and used markers to draw designs, faces, and of course a couple of eye patches.
Then, we lined six craft sticks side-by-side to make the base of the pirate ship.
Two more craft sticks glued across finishes the base. Then, the grown-ups cut a craft stick and stuck it in between the slats of the ship base. A construction paper triangle with slits down the center (again cut by the grown-up) makes the flag.
This craft is great for a wide range of ages. You can keep it simple for the little ones, or expand it further for older kids. Put on a puppet show and don’t forget to talk like a pirate! Avast, me hearties!
Some more ways to celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day:
- Listen to some pirate music, like Peter Pan’s “A Pirate’s Life For Me” or Muppet Treasure Island’s “Shiver My Timbers.”
- Talk about oceans and create them with construction paper so your pirate ship has a place to sail.
- Create a treasure map that leads your child to a special snack.
Are you planning on celebrating Talk Like a Pirate Day? We’d love to see your pirate puppets or photos on our Facebook page!
