Enjoy crafting with your kids!
One of our favorite boredom-buster activities is to combine masking tape with wooden blocks to make roads and cities. This time, however, the kids enjoyed decorating the Melissa & Doug Unit Blocks themselves with colored masking tape to make their own skyscraper buildings, giving new life to our unit block set!
Part of the fun was in cutting the masking tape itself! They enjoyed working together on this, with my youngest holding the tape, my oldest cutting it with the scissors, and then both of them taking turns adding the “windows” to their buildings. Great teamwork!
I love how bright and cheerful their buildings turned out! The kids were happy to combine blocks to make HUGE skyscrapers, and enjoyed re-arranging their buildings for their own city. We added some Melissa & Doug wooden vehicles and road signs for plenty of imaginative playtime fun!!
The best part about this little activity is the smiles! It didn’t take long for the kids to assign roles to each block — a firehouse, a school, a library, to name a few. Soon the library was on fire, and the firetrucks (and one very confused school bus) came to the rescue!!
