Do you have a little Olympian? This weekend the Summer Olympic Triathlon competitions begin. (Watch the women athletes Saturday, August 4, and the men Tuesday, August 7.)
Celebrate this international event by setting up a family-and-friends triathlon in your yard. The event contains three components: swimming, cycling and running. Time each child as they complete the course.
1. Swim: If your pool is not up to Olympic standards, get creative. In our race the triathletes had to slide down into the pool through a sprinkler and use a net to capture three pool boats.
2. Cycling: Let’s make it a Trunki Triathlon! Grab some chalk and let the kids create a course on the driveway. You’d be amazed how fast your little one can cruise on her Trunki. Note: After our original run I requested the girls wear their bike helmets because we were racing on cement.
3. Run: Have the kids set up a line of activity cones or other obstacles for the final stretch of the event. Complete the challenge by running and kicking a ball through the cone maze to the finish line.
Do you want to get creative? Allow the winner of the group to make alterations to the triathlon course. Pop on over to Let’s Lasso the Moon to see some additional ways to make your family’s triathlon a memorable adventure.

Such great ideas and great pictures!!! Love those activity cones!
We love, love, love the activity cones. We went camping for a week and they were the ONLY toy we used. The girls love em and I am a sucker for the polka dot pattern too.
