Camp Sunny Patch Session 5 is brought to you by Melissa & Doug, written by Camp Counselor Valerie Deneen. (Click here for a printable version.)
These red, white, and blue windsocks are such a festive way to decorate for the Fourth of July holiday! To make your own, you’ll need a sheet of paper, stamps/stamp pad, some party streamers, scissors, and a stapler.
Invite your child over to stamp patriotic designs on the sheet of paper. We used the superstar stamp from the Melissa & Doug Classroom Stamp Set. It comes with a washable-ink stamp pad in both red and blue, as well as several gold star stickers–perfect for 4th of July!
Next, cut 3 pieces of party streamers about the length of your arm. My daughter LOVED snipping the streamers for some early cutting practice!
Fold the paper in half lengthwise, and draw parallel lines from the crease almost to the other edge. (Leave an inch or more between the end of the lines and the edge of the paper.) Then cut along the lines, as shown.
Bend the paper into a tube, and staple into place. Add a strip of paper for a handle, and staple the streamers to the bottom of the windsock.
Now you can either hang your windsock proudly for display . . . or, if you’re like my kids, run around with them like crazy monkeys.
Have fun!!
