Honor Counselor Marnie’s Camp Journal: Simple Is Best!

Camp Sunny Patch Honor Counselor

This Camp Sunny Patch journal entry was written by Honor Counselor Marnie, inspired by our Session 2 activity: Spray Bottle Freeze tag.

As we were preparing for an intense game of Spray Bottle Freeze Tag, my three year old took the activity in a different direction. I didn’t realize this until I heard his sweet voice say, “Look, mama! I made a caterpillar!” And then with absolute glee, he squeals, “And a J! Huh, look at that, mama!” Yes, a spray bottle, some water and a fence. That is all it took, folks.

Spray Bottle Creative Play Activities

Could it get any simpler?

Here is what you need:

  • A spray bottle (purchasing these extra cute Melissa & Doug Spray Bottles will make you and your child smile. We have the turtle and the fish.)
  • A fence or even just a sidewalk
  • Water

Spray Bottle Fence "Painting" Activity

Approach:

  • As you can tell our approach was organic (the best activities always are!) so my only piece of advice to you is to create the environment to let your child discover this activity on his own.
  • Join in with your child. Spray with him. Design the fence. Encourage him. Make letters, numbers, animals. Go crazy. Be creative. Follow your child’s lead in this one and the activity is sure to be a success.

Spray Bottle Fence "Painting" Activity

Why this activity is fun:

  • Watching a child happily create is a joy to any parent or caretaker so it is fun for you!
  • Also fun for your child because he gets to use his imagination and come up with all sorts of objects and create scenes (as long as the water doesn’t dry up too quickly!)
  • What child does not like squirting water from a spray bottle?

Why this activity is good for development:

Simple. Easy. Inexpensive. Totally accessible. Definitely my kind of activity and experience!

Thank you for choosing to read this post. I hope that we inspired you!

Very cute idea! Will have to try soon, I live in N.E. Florida and it has been raining bad all week, so the kids don’t get much outside time right now :(

  3. Thanks Brandt! Easy & Inexpensive activities are always the best! Thanks for stopping by…Marnie
